| The Cable and Alloptic Take Fiber to the Island |
St. Kitts citizens and visitors benefit from advanced broadband service offerings
|
Livermore, CA -- August 25, 2009 – Alloptic, a global leader in the development of RF over glass (RFoG) and passive optical networking (PON) solutions for CATV, telecom, and private network operators worldwide, today announced that The Cable of St. Kitts has selected Alloptic’s RFoG equipment to upgrade its network and extend its advanced broadband service offerings to customers on St. Kitts.
“While St. Kitts primary industry is tourism, there is still great demand for high end communication services by both full time citizens and by visitors, many of whom expect and rely on access to high speed, high quality connections to the rest of the world,” said The Cable’s General Manager, Bill Ewing. “The Cable prides itself in providing not only traditional video, but also in providing exceptional voice, data, and specialized communications services. Our high speed FTTx enabled by the Alloptic RFoG system provides the reliability and quality required by advanced applications, such as remote access and control of ‘Smart Home’ home automation systems by off-island owners.”
Two high end developments on St. Kitts are now leveraging The Cable’s fiber-based broadband services, demonstrating how both FTTx and advanced Smart Home applications add value to their properties. At Sundance Ridge for example, the model home showcases advanced home automation via the ability to completely monitor and control all of the electrically-connected items in the house including remotely opening and closing of hurricane shutters.
"The Cable chose Alloptic's RFoG technology because of four significant benefits: high performance, lower cost, improved reliability, and the security of a future-proof FTTx architecture," added Mr. Ewing.
Alloptic's equipment provides expanded bi-directional bandwidth for additional video content and premium data services, while reducing overall costs. Purchased power savings - as much as 96% - are a major component of these cost benefits. Additional cost savings of their RFoG deployment come from OpEx (operating expenses) improvements such as reduced repair truck rolls and the elimination of coax line and amplifier maintenance. Power continuity is also an issue prevalent in many island communities. With the Alloptic RFoG solution, The Cable’s customers now have built-in battery backup to ensure service delivery even with power blackouts. Not only does this improve the perception of service quality, but it also reduces the cost and work load on the customer service group at The Cable.
“We are pleased to be a part of The Cable’s network upgrade,” said Shane Eleniak, Vice President of Marketing and Business Development at Alloptic. “We look forward to working with The Cable as they extend their fiber network with both greenfield expansion and brownfield network upgrades.”
Chosen for high performance, high reliability and value, Alloptic’s RFoG equipment is the industry’s top choice for cable network operators’ FTTx migration.
